Tests and Tips
Hey there, lovelies!
As a mom of three and a passionate holistic baby sleep coach, I'm ALWAYS on a mission to help families achieve a good night sleep and to have well-rested babies.
Today, I am going to share some invaluable insights and essential tips to support your journey towards healthy sleep habits.
Did you know that just like maintaining our own health, ensuring our babies' well-being involves proactive measures and regular check-ups?
Here are six essential tests and tips that every parent should consider for their baby's sleep journey:
Sleep Environment Assessment
Start by evaluating your baby's sleep environment to ensure it's conducive to good quality sleep. Consider factors like room temperature, how stimulating their bedroom is, noise levels, and cot safety to create a comfortable “sleep sanctuary” I call it.
Bedtime Routine Optimisation
I know you are bored of hearing me say this. But from 12 weeks, establishing a consistent bedtime routine is key to signaling to your baby that it's time to wind down and prepare for sleep. Adding in activities like bath time, gentle baby massage, and bedtime stories was a game changer for us x3.
Sleep Hygiene
Encourage healthy sleep hygiene practices by ensuring you nail daytime napping, and feeding, and avoiding stimulating activities (no screen time for two hours before bed.) Consistency and predictability are a must for helping your baby develop healthy sleep patterns.
Developmental Milestone Monitoring
Keep track of your baby's developmental milestones (I just do it in my notes on my iPhone but there are apps) and adjust your sleep strategies accordingly. Major developmental leaps, teething/ and or growth spurts (I use a growth app for growth) but all these can affect your baby's sleep patterns, so be prepared to adapt your approach as needed.
Responsive Parenting Approach
Embrace a responsive parenting approach that prioritises your kids emotional needs and cues. Offer comfort. Offer reassurance, especially during times of distress or discomfort. Please 🙏 harder in the short run, easier in the long run.
Self-Care and Support
I know this is tough but you need to prioritise your own well-being as a parent. Self-care is so important for maintaining your physical, emotional, and mental health. It directly impacts your ability to support your baby's sleep journey effectively. Seek support from anyone who can help, fellow parents, or a trusted sleep coach (like me) when needed.
Hope these help?
