Making Feeding to Sleep Work
Raise your hand if you have a deep-rooted belief conditioned by society that feeding/cuddling/rocking your baby to sleep is creating “bad habits.”
This belief is damaging, and it leads to more than just stress and anxiety for YOU.
1. Calm Environment: Dim the lights and play soft background music to create a relaxed atmosphere that signals its time to wind down.
2. Gentle Touch: Use this quiet time for gentle strokes or a light massage, including stroking your child’s face. This can help calm baby and is a cute way to prepare them for sleep.
3. Regular Pattern: Establishing a regular feeding pattern in the evenings helps your baby recognize that it's time to settle down for the night. Sit in the same spot.
4. Mindful Feeding: Focus on being fully present, making eye contact, and speaking softly to your baby. This strengthens your bond and promotes relaxation for the both of you.
5. Post-feeding Transition: After your baby has fallen asleep, wait for about 8 minutes before transferring them to their cot. This golden amount of time helps ensure they are settled deeply into a deep sleep, reducing the likelihood of waking during the transition.
Nighttime feeding is not only a routine; it can be a nurturing ritual that helps your baby (and you) transition from a day of exploration to a night of loving times.
