You can't force sleep!!

Desperately trying to fall asleep?

Ever find yourself lying in bed, tossing and turning?

Desperately trying to fall asleep?

Turns out, the more you force sleep, the more it resists!!

I read a sleep study yesterday where participants were offered a cash prize to fall asleep quickly, and ended up taking three times longer than the control group!

When it comes to tackling our own insomnia, my husband and I have found it good to focus on these strategies:

• We do not go to bed until we feel sleepy (yawning, eyes closing, hard to focus)

• We do nothing in bed but sleep or sex

• If we find ourselves lying awake for more than 20 minutes, we get out of bed – read or listen to a podcast until sleepy again

• did you know about the Insomniac delusion? If you can’t fall asleep, just try harder. This will do the opposite

• we identify all our NST’s (Negative Sleep Thoughts) - write them down and reframe them into positives

Remember, as parents, our own sleep is just as important as our children's. Please try the above and let me know how it goes.
